The PhD in Buddhism and Peace is a research-intensive doctoral degree focused on producing original scholarship that contributes to Buddhist knowledge and practical frameworks for peacebuilding. Dissertation Requirements

The doctoral pathway is centered on supervised research and formal scholarly contribution. Candidates are expected to maintain steady academic progress and meet publication and seminar milestones throughout the program.

  • Duration: 3 to 5 years of full-time research.
  • Word Count: Minimum 60,000 words in English or 200 pages in Pali.
  • Seminars: Five progress report seminars during the study period.
  • Publications: At least two research papers published in journals.
Admissions

Eligibility and Entry

  • Academic Background: Applicants should hold an MA in Buddhism and Peace with strong performance in core modules and thesis work.
  • Proposal: Submission of a 3,000-word thesis proposal is required.
  • Assessment: Candidates must pass an interview and present their proposal.
  • Preliminary Track: Non-MA holders must complete the required preliminary route before full doctoral entry.
Meditation

21-Day Meditation Retreat

To integrate theory and practice, all PhD candidates must complete a 21-day meditation retreat at a recognized center after dissertation approval. Degree conferment depends on submission of the retreat completion certificate.
