The MA in Buddhism and Peace is a two-year postgraduate degree that combines Buddhist philosophy, meditation, ethics, religion, and peace studies. Students move from intensive coursework into supervised research while engaging Buddhist doctrine as a living resource for inner discipline, scholarship, and social harmony.

Learning Outcomes

  • Analyze and evaluate key aspects of Buddhist philosophy, particularly in metaphysics, epistemology, and ethics.
  • Identify links between diverse religions and conflict to develop sustainable peace solutions.
  • Understand the role of concentration (Samādhi) as the foundation for Insight (Vipassanā).
  • Conduct independent research and articulate findings in a formal academic thesis.

Structure

Structure & Assessment

Duration: 2 academic years divided into 4 semesters.
Credits: 48 total credits (30 for coursework, 18 for the thesis).
Attendance: Students must maintain at least 75% attendance to qualify for examinations.
Grading: Assessment is weighted at 60% for final examinations and 40% for continuous assessment.

Requirements

Thesis & Meditation Retreat

  • Research Thesis: Submission of a final research paper (min. 20,000 words).
  • Spiritual Practice: Mandatory completion of a **21-day meditation retreat**.
