Listening is the backbone for community development. Sustainable and harmonious society always results from good listening to understand each other. On the other hand, conflict and broken communities is often seen that the community members have poor listening skills. Previous research has shown that most people are not good listeners. Only twenty-five to fifty percent that people remember what is heard. Listening is a skill that is considered as difficult to grow, however, it is a skill that all people can have. This article aims to critically examine some components of effective listening skills from Buddha’s teachings which is considered as the factors for community development. Additionally, the sources were collected based on documents from the Dhamma and other relevant information. Findings were organized under four subheadings: listening, listening contributes to learning, the factors of listening, and the benefits of listening from a Buddhist perspective in contribution to social development. This investigation produced the factors to grow effective listening skills and to build a peace and harmonious community. (192 words)
